April Showers Bring May Flowers! It has been a very rainy morning this Tuesday. I know it makes the plants in the garden happy because they seem to shoot right up after a good shower.
Since there will be no more actual babies for this homemaker, Mr. Smith and I have decided to plant a small garden this Spring and for some reason we have been referring to our plants as the “babies”. Maybe it’s because we are as clueless as first time parents!
We have already seen the benefits of gardening by a harvest of Romaine lettuce, that has grown nicely and has tasted very fresh. One head is even regrown after the cutting.
From the herb barrel I have cut cilantro to make a vinaigrette I found on Pinterest I also have used cuttings of mojito mint to flavor water. I simply added it to an infuser with slices of lemon. This makes for a refreshing drink throughout the day.
All in all we have planted: corn, watermelon, yellow squash, zucchini, okra, tomatoes, cauliflower, green bell peppers, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, onions, arugula, cilantro, basil, lavender, mojito mint, spearmint, garlic chives, and jalapeños! We even have a little hanging basket of strawberries.
Whew! I’m simply hoping that we have a small amount of success. If anything its something that the Mr. and I are really enjoying together. With the days getting longer we are able to sit together on the back patio in our rocking chairs or swing after he gets home from work.
I found some cute garden fabric at Hobby Lobby and made a small garden work apron just for fun! Again, another Pinterest find.
I hope the return of Spring is adding a bit of sunshine and green to your days as well dear homemakers.
